Overseas Visits

  • Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka-Bangladesh: from December 27, 2011-January 1, 2012: Attended and presented a research paper, chaired a technical session as well as judged the poster session at the 3rd international conference in chemical engineering, Dhaka.

  • University of Melbourne, Australia: from 16th to 23rd February, 2008. Visit was part of collaborative project from DBT (India) & DSIT (Australia) on ‘Milk Neutraceuticals’ with regard to methodologies to be adopted and executed.

  • Institut Europe'en des Membranes, Montpellier, France: from June to July 2004 (one month) and December 2005 (one month). Visits were part of Indo-French Project (IFCPAR) to discuss, deliberate on methodologies to be adopted, executed and disseminated in the form of research publications on Effluent Treatment through Membrane Processes.

  • Separem spa, Biella, Italy: from Sept. 1987 to July 1988. Dr. Bhattacharya was invited by Prof. Drioli (univ. of Calabria) to work on an industrial project entitled, "Recovery of Water and Chemicals from Textile Dyeing Effluents", in a membrane manufacturing company (separem spa). European Economic Commission sponsored the project. Apart from the development of technology (already commercialized in couple of industries), partial information of the work is also published.

  • University Of Bath, UK: May-July, 1992. A pre-planned work was taken-up to utilize the period of stay effectively. The work was on “Oily-Water Separation through Ceramic Membranes“, and was part of a project from Shell-Oil Co., UK. Meaningful data were generated from a MF rig; the results of which were modeled as well.

  • USA (1984 & 2012): Attended and presented research papers in international conferences. Further, few invited lectures were also given in institutions.

  • Germany (1992): Attended and presented research papers in international conferences. Further, few invited lectures were also given in institutions.

Other Awards & Honours

  • Research Paper Award: Best Paper Award in 4th International Conference on Chemical Engineering and Applications (CCEA-2013), Paris, France, October 12-13, 2013. Paper Title: Mathematical analysis of removal of acidic gases from synthetic waste water stream using hollow fiber membrane contactor and comparison with experimental results.

  • Research Paper Award: Second Best Paper Award in the Poster Main session of Heat & Mass Transfer held during CHEMCON-2001 (19-22 December, 2001) at CLRI, Chennai. The award carried certificates for authors and cash. Paper title:  Prediction of Partial Fluxes during Pervaporative Separation of Toluene-Water.

  • Excellence in Teaching: Commendation letters from Director, IIT-Kanpur on several courses.
