Dr. Ruchir Puri currently serves as the Chief Scientist of IBM Research, an IBM Fellow, and Vice-President of IBM Corporate Technology. He led IBM Watson as its Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Architect from 2016-2019, and has held various technical, research, and engineering leadership roles across IBM's Artificial Intelligence, and Research business. He was honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT Kanpur in 2022.
Dr. Ruchir Puri received his master's degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1990, and subsequently received his doctorate in Computer Engineering from Schulich School of Engineering at University of Calgary, Canada in 1994.
He was elected as the Fellow of IEEE in 2007 for seminal contributions to automated logical and physical design of electronic circuits, and has been an ACM Distinguished Speaker, an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, and was awarded 2014 Asian American Engineer of the year. He has been an adjunct professor at Columbia University, New York, and a visiting scientist at Stanford University. In 2011, he was honoured with the John Von-Neumann Chair at Institute of Discrete Mathematics at Bonn University, Germany. He is an inventor of over 70 United States patents and has authored over 125 scientific publications on VLSI Chip design, design automation methods, microprocessor design, Artificial Intelligence, and optimization algorithms.
