Prof. Ratnesh Kumar currently is the Palmer Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering Dept. at Iowa State University, USA. He was honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT Kanpur in 2022.
Prof. Ratnesh Kumar received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1987, and subsequently his master's and doctorate degrees in Electrical & Computing Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin, in 1989 and 1991 respectively. He directs the ESSeNCE (Embedded Software, Sensors, Networks, Cyber-physical and Energy) Lab at Iowa State University, which has the top ranked program in Agriculture Engineering. For his distinguished contributions in a variety of areas, he is an elected Fellow of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers); Fellow of the AAAS (American Association for Advancement of Science); recipient of the D. R. Boylan Eminent Faculty Award for Research, and also the Outstanding Achievement in Research, both from Iowa State University. He has published 386 peer reviewed articles, and has 13 patents to his name of which companies have already licensed 5 patents. For the graduating batch of 1987 at IIT Kanpur, he was the recipient of Ratan Swarup Memorial Gold Medal for the Best All-rounder student, Lalit Narain Das Memorial Gold Medal for being the Best Undergraduate Student in Electrical Engineering, and Proficiency Prize for the Best Project Work in Electrical Engineering.
