Kanpur, 14 August, 2024: The PG, Academic, and Career Council (AnC) of the Student’s Gymkhana at IIT Kanpur recently organized a thorough academic orientation event for the newly admitted Y24 PG students titled "Academic Orientation Session for Y24 PG Students - A Comprehensive Guide." The session aimed to provide students with essential information to kick-start their academic journey at IIT Kanpur, offering valuable insights into the academic program structure, rules and regulations, policies, opportunities, resources, and the registration process. It also included guidance on course and supervisor selection and introduced the crucial portals and resources available to IIT Kanpur students. The Y24 orientation began with an inaugural ceremony, followed by a welcome address from the Chief Guest, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur. He shared his thoughts, stating, "As the Director of IIT Kanpur, I take immense pride in our institution's outstanding history of achievement, innovation, and academic excellence. You have now become a part of one of the most vibrant student communities and an environment that not only fosters but demands creativity. Our unwavering dedication to innovation has led to groundbreaking advancements, and we look forward to reaching new heights with you all.” Prof. Agrawal also highlighted the roles, responsibilities, and challenges associated with student life and extended his full support to the students. Following the inaugural address, Prof. Pratik Sen, Dean of Students’ Affairs, emphasized the transformative nature of postgraduate studies, saying that they offer a unique opportunity to delve deeper into one's chosen field, engage in cutting-edge research, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge, while Prof. Shalabh, Dean of Academic Affairs added that IIT Kanpur is not only one of the best institutes in the country but also globally, with an administration dedicated to helping students achieve their dreams through academics. During the orientation, Prof. Ashoke De, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, emphasized the chance for students to engage in groundbreaking research and deepen their expertise, backed by world-class teachers and advanced facilities. Prof. Ark Verma invited students to an enriching experience at IIT Kanpur that will shape their careers and enable them to make a global impact. Prof. Abheejeet Mohapatra encouraged students to connect with peers, teachers, and staff, highlighting the institute’s dedication to their success and satisfaction. Additionally, Yogesh RG Singh, General Secretary of the PG Academics and Career Council, urged students to explore diverse extracurricular activities and make the most of the campus’s vibrant resources, promising the Council’s support in advancing their academic and professional journey. The event also included an introductory session that briefed students on the activities of the AnC and its subsidiary wings. To further support the students, comprehensive booklets containing all necessary information were distributed to the Y24 PG students during the event. The Academic Orientation Session is a key initiative by AnC to ensure that newly joined students are well-prepared to navigate their academic journey at IIT Kanpur. Through this event, AnC aims to foster a supportive environment that will help students adapt seamlessly to their new academic surroundings and make the most of the opportunities available to them.
