Prerequisites: Course Contents Free body diagram, equilibrium equations, examples from three dimensional truss problems; bending moment, shear force. Introduction to theory of elasticity, stress, strain, stress strain relations, constitutive relations, basic equations of elasticity. Bending of beams, symmetrical and unsymmetrical sections, temperature effects, non homogeneous materials, modulus weighted sectional properties, thin walled sections. Deflection of beams. Torsion of circular and noncircular sections, thin walled sections, single and multiple closed cell sections. Shear in thin walled sections, shear center, single and multiple cell sections, combined bending and torsion. Plane strain and plane stress problems in elasticity. Eulers buckling of columns. Topics
