Established in 1967, the purpose of the School is to provide affordable quality education to the wards of economically weaker sections of IIT Kanpur’s extended families. These families are not necessarily on IITK’s payrolls, but are nevertheless an integral part of IITK community as daily wagers, domestic workers, rickshaw pullers, etc.

Due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, classes were conducted virtually. Apart from academic activities, many extracurricular activities were also conducted to keep the students engaged during the pandemic. Students actively took part in celebrating national and religious festivals. They shared their activity on a Whatsapp group created by their class teachers.
